Traffic shifts on U.S. 31 in Franklin for milling, paving

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces various traffic shifts and an approach closure on U.S. 31 starting Thursday, September 18, to accommodate milling and paving work in Franklin.

Drivers can expect the following traffic impacts, weather permitting:

• Thursday, September 17 through Saturday, September 19: West approach of Mallory Parkway closed at U.S. 31; businesses will have access from U.S. 31 to the north and south of the closure
• Thursday, September 17: Milling operations begin on outside lanes of northbound and southbound U.S. 31 between King and Lemley Streets; traffic shifted to inside lanes
• Friday, September 18: Milling operations move to inside lanes of northbound and southbound U.S. 31 between King and Lemley Streets; traffic shifted to outside lanes
• Saturday, September 19: Paving begins on northbound and southbound U.S. 31 between King and Lemley Streets; traffic will shift as needed; west approach of Mallory Parkway reopens at U.S. 31

Additional traffic shifts will continue on northbound and southbound U.S. 31 throughout Phase 3 construction. INDOT says drivers can expect lane shifts between Hospital Road and Lemley Street during this phase.

This work is part of a $66.2 million intersection improvement contract awarded to Milestone in February 2025. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2028. Find more information about the project on the INDOT Southeast webpage.
