COLUMBUS, Ind. – UPDATE: 6/25– Columbus Police Department detectives continue to investigate the death of a 39-year-old Seymour man that occurred at Mill Race yesterday, June 24.
Just before 2 pm on June 25th, , CPD officers, the Columbus Fire Department, and emergency medical personnel were called to the observation tower at Mill Race Park near 5th and Lindsey Streets. The initial callers reported that a man had jumped from the tower and was not breathing.
First responders quickly arrived and found the man deceased. Investigators and the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Officer were called to the tower. The park was closed while the scene was processed. The investigation is ongoing but has not uncovered any indicators of foul play at this point.

Columbus emergency personnel and city officials were called to the scene of a fatal incident at Mill Race Park on Wednesday, June 24.
Just before 2 p.m., the Columbus Police Department (CPD) and Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to a report of an incident at the park's observation tower. Upon arrival, first responders located a deceased individual.
An investigation began surrounding the details of the person’s death. There was never any danger to the public.
During the investigation, Mill Race Park was closed for about two hours.
