Edinburgh breaks ground on new electric distribution substation

EDINBURGH, Ind. - The Town of Edinburgh recently announced that it had broken ground on its new 69 kV – 12.5 kV electric distribution substation in the Edinburgh Industrial Park, at County Roads 250W and County Road 900N.

The project is a major investment in the future of the Edinburgh community and electric utility system.   

This new substation will:   

• Improve reliability and redundancy for our electric customers
• Increase capacity for current and future industrial growth
• Support economic development in the Industrial Park
• Modernize our electric infrastructure with new SCADA integration and advanced controls

The project will include a new power transformer, breakers, switches, control building, bus work, and related site improvements. Duke Energy Indiana is also constructing the incoming 69 kV transmission loop that will feed the new town-owned facility. 

Officials say this is more than just a construction project; it is a long-term investment in safe, resilient, and dependable electric service for Edinburgh businesses, industries, and future development opportunities.

Edinburgh Electric said it is excited to see dirt moving as it prepares for the arrival of the transformer and continues building the future. The target for the substation to be operational is the summer of 2027.
