Dolly Parton dies at 80

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Country music icon, actor, and philanthropist Dolly Parton died Tuesday at the age of 80.

On behalf of her family, a statement was released Tuesday afternoon saying the global superstar passed away peacefully.

Parton was renowned for hit records including "Jolene, "9 to 5," "I Will Always Love You," and dozens of others. She opened her "Dollywood" amusement park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in 1986.

Parton was also known for her Imagination Library literacy program, which provides books for children to inspire reading. The project ensures every child has access to books regardless of family income.
