COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) found a man, identified as Lakota Slaughter, 38, of Flat Rock, and a motorcycle beneath a shelter house at Owens Bend Park on Wednesday, November 4.
While questioning Slaughter, deputies determined that his driver's license was suspended. Further investigation revealed the motorcycle displayed a false, fictitious license plate that expired in 2022. A records check of the motorcycle's VIN identified the last registered owner as an individual from Montana.
An Edinburgh Police Department Officer also responded with his K-9 partner. The police dog gave a positive alert to bags attached to the motorcycle. Based on the alert, deputies conducted a probable cause search and allegedly located about 57 grams of suspected methamphetamine, numerous syringes, and additional items of drug-related items.
The suspect was arrested, taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, and remanded to jail staff. He remains in custody on a 48-hour hold pending the filing of official charges.
Slaughter was preliminarily charged with:
