NAMI mental health classes start in May

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of South Central Indiana will hold a series of "Peer-to-Peer" classes beginning Tuesday, May 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Bartholomew County Public Library.   

The course, which continues for eight weeks, is for those who live with a mental health condition (anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, depression, OCD, PTSD, eating disorders, etc.).   

A person does not have to have been diagnosed to benefit from the classes.     

Topics covered at the NAMI Peer-to-Peer series include:

  • Set a vision and goals for the future
  • Partner with health care providers   
  • Develop confidence in making decisions   
  • Practice relaxation and stress reduction tools   
  • Share your story   
  • Strengthen relationships   
  • Enhance communication skills   
  • Learn about mental health treatment options
