Local man sentenced for Domestic Battery, Intimidation

COLUMBUS, Ind. - Bartholomew Circuit Court Judge Kelly Benjamin sentenced Tyler Roberts last week for crimes he was convicted of earlier this year. Roberts will spend five years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for Domestic Battery (level 5 Felony) and 2.5 years for Intimidation (level 6 Felony).

On September 6, 2025, the Columbus Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence. Officers made contact with a victim who reported that she had been battered and threatened by Tyler Roberts.

Following an investigation, he was taken into custody. During the arrest, Roberts admitted to consuming methamphetamine earlier that evening.

While being transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, Roberts also made threats toward law enforcement officers.

Under Indiana law, the sentencing range for a Level 5 Felony is 1 to 6 years, with an advisory sentence of 3 years. The sentencing range for a Level 6 Felony is 6 months to 2.5 years, with an advisory sentence of 1 year.
