GREENWOOD, Ind. - Several gunshots rang out from a parking lot across from the Our Lady of Greenwood Festival on Friday, a little before 9 p.m. Downtown Greenwood festival-goers were sent running for cover toward the school building and nearby businesses.
Witnesses said most of the shots were fired into the air, from the intersection of Smith Valley Road and Meridian Street, toward the festival. One person was known to have been shot in the ankle.
The Greenwood Police Department says one person, a juvenile male, is in custody. He was quickly apprehended by officers at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
The Our Lady of Greenwood Summer Festival was closed for the evening. The three-day event is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, but there is no word yet if that will happen.
