Greenwood advances new regulations for shared mobility scooters, e-Bikes

GREENWOOD, Ind. — The Greenwood Common Council considered new regulations for shared motorized scooters and electric bicycles during its meeting on Monday, October 19.

Police Chief James Ison introduced Ordinance 2640. It seeks to add Article 10 and Article 11 to the Greenwood Municipal Code.

The proposed rules address safety risks, speed limits, and sidewalk or trailway obstructions caused by smartphone-based shared mobility rentals and e-bikes.

The council suspended rules to approve the ordinance on first reading. The final vote was postponed until after a second reading to allow further public review and discussion.
