INDIANAPOLIS - The American Heart Association (AHA) recently recognized 53 Indiana hospitals for their commitment to improving care for patients with heart disease and stroke through the "Get With the Guidelines" quality improvement programs.

Columbus Regional Health (CRH) was the only healthcare facility in Bartholomew and surrounding counties to receive the recognition. Nationwide, over 3,000 hospitals took part in the program.

According to the AHA, heart disease and stroke are the  No.1 and No. 4 causes of death in the United States, respectively.

Participation in "Get With the Guidelines" has been associated with better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality. The program launched over two decades ago.
