Bargersville seeks applicants for 'Tree Board'

BARGERSVILLE, Ind. - Bargersville Town Council has taken an important first step toward achieving Tree City USA designation with the recent adoption of an ordinance establishing a Bargersville Tree Board and formalizing policies to protect, manage, and enhance the Town’s tree canopy.

The decree recognizes trees and wooded areas as essential public resources that provide environmental, economic, aesthetic, and public health benefits to the community.

“This ordinance reflects Bargersville’s agrarian roots and our commitment to protecting the natural character of our community as we grow,” said Town Council Vice President Jamie Pheifer. “It sets clear expectations for both developers and residents, ensuring we grow in a way that respects our environment, preserves our tree canopy, and maintains the standards that make our town a great place to live.”

Bargersville needs individuals to serve on the Town Tree Board. Applicants must be Bargersville residents and, where practicable, have experience or interest in landscaping, environmental science, planning, or related fields. Members will serve staggered four-year terms and meet at least quarterly.

The Tree Board will act in an advisory and quasi-administrative role to the Town Council and staff on tree-related policies and best practices.
