Applications for Greenwood Citizens Police Academy are still open

GREENWOOD, Ind. - The Greenwood Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy through July 15.  It is an 11-week program designed to immerse the average citizen in the world of law enforcement.

The weekly 3-hour Academy will be held each Tuesday from August 11 to October 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. 

Participants must be residents of Johnson County, have no criminal history, and be willing to sign all required waivers.

The program is designed to educate citizens and community stakeholders on policies, procedures, training, and job responsibilities with policing. 

Applicants will spend three hours per week learning from real police instructors. The course also includes a tour of the Johnson County Jail and 911 center, “shoot/don’t shoot” scenarios, virtual reality training, and more.
