SHELBYVILLE, Ind. - The Shelby County Sheriff's Department responded to a fatal crash on Thursday at 7:45 a.m. A van and a tanker truck were involved in the wreck that resulted in the van driver's death.
The collision took place on County Road 600S, west of State Road 9. There were two occupants in the van, and the truck driver was alone in his vehicle. The driver of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Shelby County Sheriff Louie Koch said the preliminary investigation indicates that the van driver dropped off the edge of the north side of the road and then overcorrected. As it came back up onto the roadway, it crossed the centerline and struck the tanker truck head-on.
A juvenile in the van was transported to an Indianapolis hospital. The truck driver, Kenneth Lain, 28, was taken to MHP Major Hospital in Shelbyville with non-life-threatening injuries.
All individuals involved in the crash are from Shelbyville. When family members are notified, the Shelby County Coroner will release the victim's name.
