QUEENSVILLE, Ind. - The Indiana State Police (ISP) and Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) are investigating the death of a North Vernon man after a house fire that was reported in northern Jennings County at around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Emergency personnel responded after receiving calls of a fire at a home in the 4500 Block of North County Road 350W (Geneva Road), just off of State Road 7 in Queensville. JCSO deputies and North Vernon Police Department officers tried to gain access to the smoke-filled residence after learning the home may still be occupied.
Firefighters from the Scipio-Geneva Township Fire Department soon arrived and extinguished the blaze, which was challenging due to the cold temperatures.
The deceased body of an adult male was located inside the house. The Jennings County Coroner’s Office identified him as Kody A. Perry, 33, who resided at the home.
ISP detectives and crime scene investigators were summoned to conduct a joint investigation with JCSO detectives. The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office will determine the cause of the fire.
An autopsy will be conducted to attempt to determine the manner and cause of death.
