VERNON, Ind. — The Jennings County community is invited to come together for a day of movement, wellness, and connection at the "Vernon Moves: Fitness and Community Healthfest," taking place on Saturday, May 16, at the Vawter Recreation Center in Vernon.
Hosted by the Jennings County Department of Health in partnership with Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art, Inc., this free, family-friendly event is designed to promote accessible health and wellness opportunities for all ages and abilities.
In addition to a full day of fitness and interactive activities, the event will offer a wide range of free health screenings and services. It will be a unique opportunity for community members to check their health in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Early detection, prevention, and access to care are critical to improving long-term health outcomes—especially in rural communities where resources are limited.
Free services available during Vernon Moves include:
- Blood pressure checks
- Dental screenings provided by the Indiana Department of Health Dental Unit
- Vaccinations available on site
- Multiple wellness screenings from local organizations and agencies
- Bicycle helmet raffle promoting safety and injury prevention
The event will also feature activities throughout the day, like:
- Group fitness sessions and yoga demonstrations
- Family Sports Mini-Clinics
- Healthy Cooking Demonstrations
- Wellness education and community resources
- Interactive activities for youth and families
Participants can move at their own pace, explore many forms of exercise, and connect with local organizations that offer health-related services and support.
