NORTH VERNON, Ind. — At the North Vernon City Council meeting on Monday, September 28, a rezoning request to allow future mixed-use development on N. Highway 7 was approved.
The petition presented on behalf of BIA Investment Group requests to rezone about 5 -6 acres behind Casey’s general store. The property was changed from commercial to a Planned Unit Development Mixed-Use (PUD-Mix) classification, which allows for both residential and commercial projects.
Because the property has been designated as a Planned Unit Development, any specific project proposals or site construction plans must return to the Jennings County Area Plan Commission and the North Vernon City Council for final review and approval before work can begin.
The area plan board offered unaninmous support for the rezoning recommendation before the council's vote.
