Hotter temperatures expected this week

SOUTH-CENTRAL, Ind. - After a brief period of comfortable summer temperatures, the National Weather Service (NWS) says hot weather is returning to south-central Indiana this week.

The thermometer is expected to rise into the low 90s on Wednesday through the weekend while humidity levels build. Heat index values will approach 100 degrees. 

NWS will monitor forecast conditions and provide updates if Heat Alerts or Advisories are issued. Temperatures will begin cooling early next week.   

In the meantime, residents in Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, and Jennings Counties should take these precautions:   

• Limit strenuous outdoor activities
• If working outside, take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioning
• Drink lots of water and stay hydrated
• Check on older adults
• Make sure pets have water and shade
• Do not leave children or pets unattended in vehicles
