NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The North Vernon City Council has approved street closures in downtown North Vernon to accommodate the annual Sweet Street trick-or-treating event scheduled for Halloween night.
City officials announced that the citywide trick-or-treating hours are on October 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Sweet Street event along Madison Avenue is from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
To prepare for vendors and visitors, Madison Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from the railroad tracks to Bramwell's, beginning at 2 p.m.
Organizers report that 24 of the 41 available vendor booth spaces are already reserved, with an expected attendance of 4,000 to 5,000 visitors. Local establishment Nashes will offer a chili supper and utilize the city's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) rules during the event.
Safety measures, including strategically placed municipal and fire department vehicles, will be deployed at key street intersections to secure the event area for families and children.
