NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The North Vernon City Council convened for the first time in 2025 on Monday, January 13.
The first order of business was to elect a new Council president. Jack Kelley was nominated for this role. Former Council president Baron Wilder was elected Vice-President.
Mayor Shawn Gerkin noted that he would not change any of his department appointees.
One of his appointees is his assistant, Tara Thormin, who works with the Jennings County Animal Control. Thormin addressed the Council with updates regarding the animal shelter. Click here for more details.
The Council approved the update of city district lines on Monday. Below is an image of the updated map. Mayor Gerkin noted that the changes were minor.
